They are seen as one of the best, but also the most innovative, as they are constantly coming up with new ways to enhance and improve the machines that they manufacture. Being a long time Dyson fan, I was excited to get my hands on the V6 Absolute – one of their first stick vacuum cleaners.
It wasn’t long before I had it set up and ready to go, and I have to say that I was really impressed with the overall function. Unlike the standard V6, it is capable of dealing with a lot more in the home, and this is one of the features that I was looking forward to the most.
While the price might seem a little high, it is a great quality vacuum cleaner and one that is sure to improve the overall cleanliness of your home.
Now that you’re here, take some time to kick back and read this review of the Dyson V6 Absolute. Oh, and make sure you check out the other models in the V6 dyson range later on in this article.

Presenting the Dyson V6 Absolute
The Dyson V6 Absolute is an excellent stick vacuum cleaner, and it is one that promises to serve you well when cleaning your home. It provides superb suction and power so that you can remove debris effectively, and it can go across all floor types.
The only thing you need to look out for is the max/turbo setting as this will only last 6 minutes. Combined with the 20 minutes runtime on the regular setting, it is not great for larger homes. As a result, you should think about investing in a mains vacuum cleaner in addition to this one.
Features and Benefits
Power and Design
This cordless vacuum cleaner may be small and slim, but it certainly packs a punch when it comes to cleaning your floors. The wattage is superb, and while it may seem low at first, it is sure to surprise you.
The overall design is excellent as well, as it converts into a handheld vacuum cleaner with great ease and simplicity.
This is probably my favourite feature when it comes to the Dyson V6 Absolute, and certainly one of the most useful.
The overall suction is brilliant, especially when it is on the max/turbo setting. It has two settings in total, a regular one and a max/turbo so that you can adjust the overall power levels according to your needs.
The difference in wattage between them is quite great, with the max setting being nearly four times more powerful than the regular one.
The main brush head has been designed well, as it can deal with both hard floors and carpets (something you can read about in more detail later on).
There are hard and soft bristles on the brush roll, which allows them to alternate and ensures that both hard floors and carpets receive an even clean, and one that is very thorough.
When on the normal power mode, the running time for this vacuum cleaner is 20 minutes. However, on max/turbo, it is only 6 minutes.
This does mean that it’s only really suitable for being the sole vacuum cleaner in a small apartment, and that in regular sized homes it would be better as an additional vacuum cleaner alongside a main powered model.
Maintenance is key when it comes to ensuring that your vacuum cleaner remains in top condition. Make sure to clean areas, like the shroud, regularly and remember that you can use tools like the dusting brush (without power), as well as another vacuum cleaner to make things easier.
The charging period for the Dyson V6 Absolute is actually pretty good, and it only takes around three hours for the battery to fill up.
When you first get it, you should put it on charge for 3.5 hours before the initial use, and you can either use the supplied wall mount or the socket plug to charge it up. Here is what each of the charging lights mean:
- Blue light: charging
- Amber light: not charging due to it being too hot or cold
- Red light: not charging, call customer support
It also comes with a long extension wand so that you can reach high up areas like the ceiling. Removing this hose turns the vacuum into a handheld model. It is made from aluminium, which make it incredibly lightweight when you are using it to clean your home.
Effectiveness When Cleaning Stairs
The Dyson V6 Absolute could be one of the best vacuum cleaners for stairs, just like the rest of the V6, V7, and V8 ranges. This is because they convert into handheld models, which makes them incredibly compact and ideal for cleaning the stairs.
The suction is still very powerful, and the max/turbo setting will provide an incredibly deep clean. The motorised head is my attachment of choice for cleaning the stairs as it does a great job, and the swivel head means that it is versatile and able to reach right into the corners of the stairs.
Plus, when you combine it with the other tools, your stairs will be left in immaculate condition. Plus, each of the tools slides onto the hose quite nicely.
Weight and Handling
The Dyson V6 Absolute is very lightweight, which makes it ideal for those who do not want something heavy or that requires a lot of strength to move around the home. It is easy to handle due to the slim design and the fact that it barely weighs anything.
It is simply a very easy to use vacuum cleaner that I have been consistently impressed with. When it comes to storage, there is a wall mount supplied with it that you can screw to your wall.
This houses and charges the vacuum cleaner, but also have room for the two attachments to be placed in there, keeping everything out of the way.
When you wash the filter, make sure that you leave it to dry for at least 24 hours, or until it is completely dry. It could be hazardous to place it back in the machine when damp or wet, and has the potential to harm you or the vacuum as a result.

The dust canister in this model is a little small, and as a result, it does not hold a massive amount of dirt. However, considering its small and compact size, this is hardly a surprising feature. The main issue with the canister is the process of emptying it, as it is not always easy.
While opening the canister is a simple process, if it is quite full it the debris will not tip out into the bin. Instead, you have to take the top off the bin (filter included), pull the shroud out, and empty it by hand. I did not like the feature, as I hate getting my hands covered in vacuum gunk.
It was a very fiddly and lengthy process. However, you will find that the Dyson V8 actually solves this issue, which is good!
The filter is great. It is HEPA grade and does a fantastic job of trapping allergens inside, which is ideal for those who suffer from asthma and allergies. This is because the allergens remain captured and stuck in the filter, and so they are not pushed back out into the air.
Cleaning Different Floor Types
This cordless stick vacuum cleaner actually works amazingly across a number of different floor types, and you should find yourself quite pleased with the results.
It works well with pet hair, but if you have one that sheds and moults a lot, you will be better off with the Dyson V6 Animal instead, as this has been designed to deal with all of your furry friends.
When using it on carpet, it tends to do a better job on the max setting as opposed to the regular one. It does really well, and after a couple of passes, you will find that it has pretty much all of the dirt and debris on your carpet sucked up.
On the max setting, however, it does an amazing job on regular cleaning tasks, even going so far as to lift the carpet a little and really clean deep. If you do use it in areas that have a lot of pet hair, you will find that it struggles with thicker batches and will need several pass overs before you start to see results.
When it comes to hard floors, it is very good with fine debris, and it has no issues with picking any of it up. However, when it comes to the larger stuff, it does suffer from the classic snow plough effect.
This is where the large debris is pushed away by the vacuum head and ends up being bunched up. The only way to resolve this is to remove the main floor head and just use the metal hose.
Did You Know
They Dyson V8 has solved the issue with emptying the canister when it is filled, making the process an easier and simpler one.
The Dyson V6 Absolute comes with an excellent selection of tools for you to use to ensure that your home gets perfectly clean. The crevice tool slides onto the end of the vacuum with ease, and is perfect for reaching those tight corners as well as along the line where the skirting and carpet meet.
I have also found that the crevice tool is perfect for removing cobwebs. The dusting and upholstery tool are actually attached to each other, and you can slide the brush up and over the head of the tool to transform it into a dusting brush.
The upholstery tool is ideal for use in your car as well as on your furniture when you convert it into handheld mode.
The dusting brush is perfect for delicate surfaces, bannister, and also cleaning your skirting gently. I really like to use it on my kitchen floor as it is soft on the tiles but sucks up a lot of debris.
How Does It Compare?
Here are some other, similar, models of vacuum cleaner for you to consider, just in case you want to look at other options before you commit to the Dyson V6 Absolute.
This is the base model of V6, and it comes at a lower price than the Absolute. It uses the same cyclonic technology as the rest of the range, but it can be a little less effective on carpet than the Absolute model.
Perfect for cleaning stairs and with a range of accessories, it’s still great for light work around the house.
The Dyson V6 Animal has been designed to tackle even the toughest piles of fluff that your furry friend leaves behind, and its success is down to the brush bar, which is 75% more powerful than previous models.
Shrinking into a handheld model to make the stairs easier, and with a range of attachments for more versatile cleaning, if you have pets you will want this – trust me, I know.
With powerful suction that isn’t fazed by low charge or mountains of fur, it’s perfect for using on small cleaning jobs in addition to your standard vacuum cleaner.
The filtration system is ideal for capturing allergens and trapping them, ensuring that they aren’t pushed back into the air, so it is ideal for asthma and allergy sufferers. Plus, it turns into a handheld model for tiny jobs.
Hopefully, this Dyson V6 Absolute review guide has given you a little more information on how it works, and the ways in which it could benefit your home.
It’s a powerful little machine, and it does not take up a great deal of space, which is great for those who don’t have a lot of room for storing a vacuum cleaner away. It’s also lightweight and has a short charging period.
The only two issues this vacuum really has is that the max/turbo mode only lasts for six minutes and that it isn’t really going to be able to replace a standard mains vacuum unless you are living in a small apartment.
Yes, it has power and great suction, but it doesn’t really last long enough to do a thorough clean, which is why it’s not ideal as a sole vacuum in most homes.
Of course, working alongside a regular vacuum cleaner, you are on your way to the cleanest and best looking home around.
