One of the great things about this company is the fact that they are usually ahead of the curve when it comes to innovative new technology, and their quality engineering is always on show.

The Dyson Ball Animal 2 is perfect for people like me who have a home full of shedding pets, but also very little cupboard space for storage.

Plus, if you need a little more reach to get to the very top, there is no need to try a dangerous balancing act on the stairs. All you need to do is tip the upright vacuum backwards, and you will get some extra length, leaving you able to hoover the stairs in a safe and efficient manner.

Weight and Handling

The classic ball technology makes this model really easy to handle, so you can manoeuvre it with great ease around your home. In many ways, it is like the Light Ball on steroids, and it will provide you with a smooth and easy experience that you won’t know how you lived without.

It might be just what you need if you are tired of trying to get stiff old uprights to turn the way you want them to. The weight is about average, and while it is relatively easy to push around, you might struggle a little when using the maximum power setting on carpets.

Other than that, you won’t really notice the weight, although you may find that it can be a little heavy and clunky when you need to carry it between locations.

Dust Capacity

The Dyson Ball Animal 2 has a 1.8L capacity, ensuring that you do not need to stop regularly to empty the canister in order to get your home clean. This is an improvement on previous models, and it also benefits from the new emptying system, which comes in two stages.

After removing the bin, you press down on the red bar – cleaning the shroud and removing excess dust that might be clinging to it. Once this is done, press the bar again, and the dirt will be released into the bin.

To lock it again, you just need to close the lid and push it back up, an action that can be done using the floor if you don’t want to touch excess dust. There are also two washable filters included with this model.

The first is located above the bin, like with most Dyson vacuum cleaners, and this is very easy to remove and wash. The second is the exhaust filter that you find behind the ball. This can take a little more effort to reach, but it is worth giving it a good scrub when you do the first one.

The filtration system is incredibly effective, capturing 99.7% of allergens with ease, so those with asthma and allergies don’t need to worry about suffering from an attack while vacuuming – especially since clean air is pushed out of the upright vacuum instead of dust.

Cleaning Different Floor Types

The Dyson Ball Animal 2 is fantastic for cleaning all floor types in an efficient manner. On the low or regular setting, it does a great job of cleaning carpets, although the max setting will offer a deeper and more thorough clean.

This is especially good for embedded hair and dirt that needs some extra love and attention to get it back into top condition.

The max setting is also better for collecting smaller particles. For hard floors, the regular setting is excellent, and it offers more than enough power to collect all of the particles and debris on the floor.

While the brush bar works its way deep into the carpet, on hard floors it has a different function. It will seal in suction for a really good clean that can even reach any gaps in the floor to bring up old dirt and grime.

The only thing you might need to look out for is the side exhausts. These are very powerful, and you may find that they end up blowing some of the mess away when you go past it.

While this effect is minimal, it does occur and is something to keep an eye on while you are vacuuming.

This method means that they are not going to become loose, nor will they get worn or stuck. It is a fast and simple way of simply slipping the attachments onto the machine.

The Dyson ball animal has a standard tool collection that you would expect to find with any vacuum. The stair tool is perfect for getting pet hair and general debris off your furniture, but it is also the perfect size for giving the stairs a good and thoroughly clean.
