  • Noise Level: 76dB (max)
  • Weight: 57kg
  • Overall Size: 60x40x90cm

Did we mention they also tend to be much cheaper than front loaders? Take a little peek at this model.

The Good

Tall and sleek, it’s ready to become part of your home and help you get through the laundry. Its smaller capacity it nicely suited to couples or those who live alone, providing enough space to get through a week of laundry with no hassle at all.

It has lovely dimensions as well, which means it can fit into smaller spaces. So, if you live in a cosy home, you should have no problem sliding it in.

With an RPM of 1200, you’ll find the spin speed works very nicely when removing excess water and leaving clothes relatively dry at the end. It has a quick wash setting, and you can select either a 15- or 30-minute wash; depending on how urgently you need the clothes.

If you want something a little more integrated, however, the Hotpoint BIWM featured in our guide later on is ideal for single people and couples.

The Not So Good

It has been noted by some customers that it can be a little noisy when running on maximum spin. Not a deal breaker though,

Our View

If you’re looking for a cheap top loading washing machine, you’ve come to the right place. This model is affordable and reliable, but it also comes with fantastic features that you normally pay extra for.

Yes, it can be a little loud, but it’s worth it for clean clothes at the end of you cycle.

Plus, some of the slower spin cycles are much quieter. It’s a great little machine that will help keep you going.

Miele WDB 004

2. Miele W1 WDB004

Best Quiet Washing Machine

SPECIFICATIONS

  • Spin Speed: 1400RPM
  • Washing Capacity: 8kg
  • Noise Level: 74dB (max)
  • Weight: 94kg
  • Overall Size: 85×59.6×63.6cm

Miele is a wonderful brand for a number of reasons, but right now we’re focussing on how quiet they can be. We all dream of a washing machine that doesn’t deafen us, and this might just end your search.

If you’re interested in quiet washing machine decibels stop here and take a look.

The Good

The honeycomb drum is part of what we love about this washing machine. It prevents clothes from snagging, and is gentle on all of your clothing to help them last longer.

You can also use the Miele brand capsules for use with certain materials; giving a perfect wash every time. With a spin speed of 1400RPM, you’re guaranteed clothes that are practically dry by the time they come out of the wash.

The quiet running is why we’re all here, however. This Miele uses frictionless magnets to power it up, which means it is more durable and reliable, but also a lot quieter because of the lack of moving parts.

It can even be used in open plan homes without disturbing you.

As an added bonus, it has loads of great features for you to try out, as well as specialised cycles for specific materials.

The Not So Good

It’s missing some of the little things, like a timer on the front to show you how long your wash has left. Otherwise, there are no negative reviews for this model.

If you do want a display, the Miele White Edition below offers fantastic spin speed, quiet running, and the bonus of a time display.

Our View

An ultra-silent washing machine with a lot of power is exactly what you get with this Miele. It might not have a timer on the front, but it makes up for it in all other areas.

The fact that this model can be used even in open plan areas says a lot about its capabilities, and there are plenty of great features to help keep you occupied.

Suited nicely to smaller families, it can get a lot of laundry done and leave it feeling pretty dry by the end. Certainly, a model worth considering.

Best Front-Loading Washing Machine – Miele WMB 120

3. Best Front-Loading Washing Machine – Miele WMB 120

SPECIFICATIONS

  • Spin Speed: 1600RPM
  • Washing Capacity: 8kg
  • Noise Level: 73dB (max)
  • Weight: 72kg
  • Overall Size: 85×59.5×63.6cm

Back to Miele already, a front-loading machine is a popular choice for many. They tend to get a more even clean, and have a lot more options in terms of programmes.

They are the most common form of washing machine in homes, and it’s easy to see why once you get to know them.

The Good

It has a classic design in white, as well as standard dimension that mean it will fit in pretty much any space in your kitchen or utility room.

The spin speed is probably one of the best features, with a maximum RPM of 1600 for superb excess water removal in each load.

This helps to reduce the drying time massively, and can also prevent the musty smell that often comes with damp clothes.

It runs quietly, which makes a nice change from many other washers out there. The load capacity is also well-suited to a smaller family.

The express wash only takes 20 minutes for those last-minute cleaning jobs, and it also has a delay timer for your convenience.

The honeycomb drum can also be found here, offering a gentle touch to clothes to prevent them getting stuck and help them last.

The Not So Good

There have been no complaints about this model of washing machine so far.

Our View

Miele always know how to please with their appliances, and the lack of negative reviews for this machine really speaks volumes for its quality.

Despite a maximum spin speed of 1600RPM it remains surprisingly quiet when it runs, offering you peace instead of a headache; just like the Miele W1WD above.

Loaded with little features that make a big difference, it’s the kind of washing machine that will stay with you for a lifetime.

Hotpoint ActiveCare NM111065WCAUK

4. Hotpoint ActiveCare NM111065WCAUK

SPECIFICATIONS

  • Spin Speed: 1600RPM
  • Washing Capacity: 10kg
  • Noise Level: 78dB (max)
  • Weight: 75.9kg
  • Overall Size: 85×59.5×60.5cm

When you have a large family, finding a washing machine to take all that laundry isn’t an easy task.

This particular model from Hotpoint has one of the biggest capacities around, and is sure to be able to handle even the most difficult loads from your kids and fellow adults alike. It’s a good one.

The Good

The 10kg capacity is what really sets this machine apart from the rest, and it is perfect for any family with kids.

The ActiveCare technology used in this model mean that practically any stain can be removed effortlessly; whether it’s tough mud or a load of paint from a rainy day inside.

Even at low temperatures it offers a fantastic clean, and it gives you washing that is more energy efficient as well as kinder to the environment. The drum massages clothes as they cycle, for a kind touch that won’t wear them down.

The Final Care feature will even remove creases from clothes. Otherwise, it has all the programmes you’d expect, including a sports setting and a hot wash.

The Not So Good

The instructions aren’t necessarily the clearest, and they don’t highlight what all of the buttons do. However, a quick online search tends to help set things straight in this regard.

Our View

Even for small families, this is a brilliant model and certainly one worth buying. It has a massive capacity for loads of clothing, as well as duvets and pet bedding if needed. It has the issue of the instructions, but a little fiddling and internet searching should clear this up nicely.

There’s a great number of features and wash cycles for you to use as well, and comparable with the Hotpoint WMFUG later on in this guide.

Hotpoint BIWMHG71284 Integrated 7Kg Washing Machine

5. Hotpoint BIWMHG71284 Integrated

Ideal Washing Machine for a Single Person

SPECIFICATIONS

  • Spin Speed: 1200RPM
  • Washing Capacity: 7kg
  • Noise Level: 71dB (max)
  • Weight: 64.4kg
  • Overall Size: 82×59.5×54.5cm

Another model from Hotpoint, it’s clear we can’t resist them. If you are a single person living alone, you don’t need a massive capacity, and that’s why we have selected this great little machine.

It’s got all the basics (and a little more ) to ensure that you end up with clean clothes in good time.

The Good

This little washing machine looks fantastic and slots in nicely with any aesthetic. It has a maximum spin speed of 1200RPM, which means you get relatively dry clothes at the end ready to hang up so that you can wear them faster.

The7kg capacity should be more than enough for a weekly wash, and it actually fits a good number of clothes inside it. There is also a clear LED display with the timer on.

You can remove 100 of the most common stains with very little effort, even on a colder wash. This is great if you find yourself working outside a lot, or after long walks with the dog where little paws end up on your jeans.

The wool setting is really kind on your woollen clothing, and there is a quick wash if you urgently need your favourite outfit. There’s just a great number of settings to use.

The Not So Good

The detergent drawer can be a little flimsy and hard to open. It’s also not a great choice of washing machine for the blind as the settings are harder to access.

Our View

Living alone means there is less laundry, and that’s why this model is such a great choice. It’s an ideal washing machine for the elderly and for seniors, with plenty of easy settings to help get things started.

It also runs quietly for minimum disturbance while your load is running. The only other machine to rival this one in terms of silence has to be the Miele W1WD featured earlier – and the capacity is small enough for a single person to benefit.

This little Hotpoint washing machine remains a perfect choice too.

Absolutely ideal for those living the solo lifestyle.

The Good

Small but mighty, this washing machine is a great contender for the Hotpoint BIWM above; especially for single people. Its maximum spin speed is 1000RPM, which really is more than enough for decently dry clothes by the end of the cycle.

It also has an automatic cleaning setting for the drum to help prevent the growth of mould, mildew, and bacteria inside it to keep you healthy.

If you need to get a load washed quickly, you’ll find this model can do it in less than 30 minutes. It’s also extremely energy efficient to save you money and also reduce your carbon footprint.

The Not So Good

There haven’t been any negative reviews for this model so far, although some people dislike the silver colour. That’s all down to personal taste, however.

Our View

This cheap washing machine promises you the world and certainly delivers. It also comes from a brand that many of us know and love for that extra dose of trust. It does come in silver, but it’s a nice colour that actually fits in a lot better than you might think.

Its small size and capacity makes it suited to cosy spaces and those who live alone, so it might be a better choice than you first thought. We recommend giving this little washer a chance.

The Good

This lovely machine has a large capacity that is suitable for medium to large families that have a lot of laundry to get through. With a wide portal door, you’ll have no issue sliding your clothes inside, and the drum promises to be gentle while running.

There is even a handwash option available, so that you can give your most delicate clothing a thorough clean without the extra effort.

The drum cleaning feature is fantastic, because after the clothes have been washed it will then do the same to the drum. This kills bacteria, and helps to prevent mould and mildew from settling in.

Additionally, there are two quick wash settings for 28 and 15 minutes, allowing last minute loads. The LED timer shows you how much time is left and allows for delayed starts, and the controls are really easy to access and use.

The Not So Good

There are some customers who feel the pre-set programmes take too long to complete, and so they only use the quick wash setting.

Our View

This affordable washing machine is just another example of why Beko make such a great company. Yes, there are some cycles that take a long time, but it’s also normal for a washer to do this.

We are often in such a rush that we forget a thorough clean takes time. It actually has a wide range of programmes to choose from, and you are sure to find the perfect one for your needs.

Ideal for families, or those who just have a lot to wash, it’s a perfect budget model and certainly one of the best washing machines on the market.

SPECIFICATIONS

  • Spin Speed: 1400RPM
  • Washing Capacity: 12kg
  • Noise Level: 77dB (max)
  • Weight: 78kg
  • Overall Size: 84x60x67cm

Plus, this one comes with some pretty great extra features.

The Good

This washing machine is a beast, with one of the largest capacities you are likely to find on a domestic washing machine. With 12kg of space for all of your clothes, it is a perfect model for those with really large families and a lot of duvets.

The maximum spin speed is also 1400RPM, which means at the end of the load your clothes will be left feeling surprisingly dry and ready for hanging.

It’s lovely and quiet, so much so that you can use it for open plan living spaces. This makes it the much larger alternative to models like the Miele Q1WD and White Edition.

The quick clean mode has clothes washed in 28 minutes, and it benefits from other programmes like the dark wash to prevent fading and the sports wash for active households that want to get rid of sweaty stains and odours.

The Not So Good

There have been no negative reviews for this model so far, and who can blame them when such a fantastic machine is on offer?

Our View

This washing machine boasts a massive capacity, quick cleaning times, and plenty of settings to keep the whole family smelling fresh.

It maintains fairly standard dimensions too, so you won’t be dragging a beast through the home and into your utility room. With no negative reviews, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to see that this is one of beko’s top models for families.

It has very few, if any, contenders here for its size and capabilities as well, so remains a fantastic choice for anyone.

Zanussi ZWC1301 3Kg Washing Machine

9. Zanussi ZWC1301

Best Small / Mini Washing Machine

SPECIFICATIONS

  • Spin Speed: 1300RPM
  • Washing Capacity: 3kg
  • Noise Level: 74dB (max)
  • Weight: 50.4kg
  • Overall Size: 67×49.5×51.5cm

We don’t all live in a spacious home, and even those of us who are confined to smaller spaces need somewhere to wash their clothes. A narrow washing machine can be the best move for such situations, as it will slot nicely into little spaces in your kitchen or utility room. Why not try Zanussi?

The Good

Yes, it’s small, but it also packs a lot of punch in terms of cleaning. Its 3kg capacity means that it is suited nicely to those who live alone, or couples who have very little space to play with.

It’s also really cheap to run, saving money on your energy bills and remaining efficient when running; a great way to reduce your carbon footprint. It’s certainly not lacking any additional features either.

It has a great delay timer so that you can adjust your laundry cycles to fit around your day, and it has a spin speed of 1300RPM on the maximum setting. This removes a lot of the excess water from clothes for speedier drying times.

In addition to cycles such as the sport and eco-wash, there is also the quick wash, which allows you to wash clothes in 30 minutes for those last-minute nights out.

The Not So Good

It can be easy to overload this slimline washing machine, so just make sure you aren’t putting too much laundry in to avoid potential damage and breakdowns.

Our View

This is absolutely the best small load washing machine, and it really delivers on all its promises. It works hard to clean your clothes efficiently, with a range of programmes to make life easier for you and to ensure that you are never without a fresh shirt.

It can be easy to overload, but you just need to remind yourself that it’s a small machine that can’t necessarily take a lot. It’s a small price to pay for something that fits so beautifully in even the most compact kitchen.

Best Portable Washing Machine

SPECIFICATIONS

  • Washing Power: 250w
  • Washing Capacity: 1kg
  • Voltage Frequency: 240v/50Hz
  • Overall Size: 45x30x34cm

Portable is good, and there are plenty of reasons you might need one. Some like to have them in poky apartments, but they also prove themselves useful on family (or solo) camping trips.

Good Ideas have thought about this and created a machine that is, quite frankly, a really good idea.

The Good

It is the definition of a portable machine, and one of our favourites from our portable washer guide. In terms of compactness, it beats even the Zanussi above, and it offers you quite a lot of power for something that can be run while you’re in a camper van.

It has a 1kg capacity, which actually fits more clothes than you might think, and is ideal for quick daily washes while you are out in the wild.

It’s surprisingly delicate with your clothes, offering a gentle wash and spin that won’t damage them over time. Even on laundry that it sensitive to colour, it helps to ensure that it won’t bleed or fade while being cleaned.

It can be plugged into the mains and will use hot water from your tap, which also means that it can be nicely suited to students living in halls that want to save money on laundry.

The Not So Good

There are a few customers who have noted that it can take a while to finish a cycle despite its small size. It also lacks a wide selection of programmes.

Our View

This washing machine is cheap and cheerful, but it also offers you the opportunity to keep clothes clean while you are away from home.

It might not be the fanciest in terms of spin cycles and washing times, but it does the job and will leave you with clothes that smell nice and fresh by the end of the load.

If you want a portable washing machine, this is the one that we would always recommend. It’s good, efficient, and it makes sure the laundry gets done.

Our final machine for this section, and the guide, we end just as we began; with Hotpoint. A 7kg capacity is perfect for many, and it has just the right amount of room to do good loads without the hassle.

Take a moment to read the washing machine reviews below and see what you think.

The Good

This washing machine has a sleek and modern design that will slide in nicely with the décor in your home. The LCD display on the front shows you how much time is left, but also allows you to set the timer if you want to delay the start.

It has some fantastic cycles, such as a quick wash that takes less than 30 minutes and an eco-wash to help you be more environmentally aware. It’s the basics, and then a little more.

With a maximum spin speed of 1400RPM, it will leave your clothes with barely any excess water, which means you will have clothes that are practically dry by the time the load is finished.

The wool cycle will prevent your clothes from losing their original softness, and keep them bouncy and new. Plus, there is also the stain cycle that will remove even the toughest stains and help to prevent them from sticking in the future.

The Not So Good

The main issue with this machine is that the default language is French, and it will reset to this once it has been unplugged. There are no instructions to fix this, but there are plenty of online guides that can help you out.

Our View

This washing machine has so much to offer, and it comes at a really good price considering. We would say its only rival is the Beko BIWM, which benefits from not resetting into a foreign language.

Other than this little niggle, this Hotpoint machine offers an exceptional spin speed and great washing capabilities to help your clothes stay soft and clean as long as possible.

If you want a small capacity as a single person or a couple and a washing machine that is kind to your clothes, you’ve already found it.

Washing Machine Buying Guide

Before we can even get into the washing machines, the buying guide comes first. This is here to help you learn more about the various features that you might want to keep an eye out for, as well as the drum size you should be considering.

The best way to start your journey for a new washing machine is to have a clear idea of what you need, what you want, and the things you’d rather avoid.

What Does a Washing Machine Cost?

The cost of a washing machine depends on your budget. This is one of the great things about them; you’re likely to find what you need for a very reasonable price.

It’s important to stick to your budget, however, as you can end up with loads of fancy features that you’ll never use instead of the basic ones that you need. Generally speaking, you’ll find that washing machines can range anywhere from £150 all the way up to £1500 and above.

In our experience, the best machines start around the £300-£400 mark, but there are also a good number of superb budget models that are a little lower than this.

What Size Do I Need?

When we talk about the size of a washing machine, we aren’t necessarily referring to the dimensions. Although, as a quick note, it goes without saying, it is really important to measure your space before you buy a washing machine.

There is nothing more frustrating than having it arrive, and it is 3cm too tall or wide for the space it needs to be in. The size we are talking about here is the drum size.

Drum Size

The drum is where all your clothes go to be washed. It spins around, lets the water in, drains it out; all the important stuff. Usually, the smallest drum size you will find is 7kg, which refers to the weight of clothing it can hold.

The maximum tends to be 12kg, but there are models out there that can hold 15kg of washing – just as there are tiny portable machines that can only take 1kg.

According to Euronics, the 7kg capacity is perfectly suited to those who are alone or a couple. 8kg is good for small families, 9kg for medium ones, and 10-12kg for larger households.

Similarly, if you have pet bedding or large duvets to wash, you’re going to want to opt for the bigger capacity so that you know the machine can hold it all.

Best Washing Machine Brands

We all like to stick with a brand we know and trust; it’s important. These names have built up a level of rapport with us over the course of decades, and it makes us feel more comfortable to go with them instead of trying out something completely unknown.

So, here is a quick list of the best washing machine brands out there. We’re sure you’ll recognise a couple.

Samsung logo

They don’t just cover phones and televisions; they also broach into the world of home appliances. Bringing all of the fancy tech we have come to love; their washing machines are loaded with a potential that only we can unlock.

There’s a whole new world of laundry just waiting for you.

Hotpoint

You can’t go wrong with a Hotpoint appliance, and their Hotpoint washing machines are some of the smoothest around. Don’t let their sleek design fool you, they are more than just a pretty face.

They come with a generous number of controls and features to help make cleaning easier.

beko logo

One of the biggest and best names out there for washing machines – Beko, they are a household brand that’s worth investing in. One of the most affordable out there, the models they produce are also exceptionally reliable and really pack a punch when cleaning.

Indesit logo

A brand that is very kind to your wallet, you won’t be spending a fortune with these guys, but you will end up with a washing machine that lasts you for years to come. The programmes on most machines can be perfectly tailored to your needs for laundry that comes with a lot less stress.

bosch logo

This company makes more than just tools, and a Bosch washing machine was made to last. Many of them are quite affordable, and they come with excellent additions that make them a worthy rival to any other brand. Many of them also have smart technology for convenient use.

Miele Logo

This is probably one of the most popular washing machine brands – Miele. Their models are tested rigorously to ensure that they will last a good 15-20 years. Not to mention the fact that they are stylish, modern, and packed with helpful washing cycles.

Does Spin Speed Matter?

It’s a big question. After all, we are often left feeling that the faster the machine goes the better it is. There is some truth to the theory, but it is not always the case.

When you buy a 1400RPM machine, you are often left with the notion that it is always going to spin that fast on every setting. This is rarely the case. You’re more likely to discover that on the majority of washes the spin speed is only 1000RPM.

1400RPM is the maximum speed it will spin at on a certain number of settings.

A higher RPM can also lead to more noise and higher energy bills, but it also has the massive advantage of leaving clothes a lot dryer when the cycle is finished.

This means that they will spend less time hanging outside or on radiators, and also reduce the length of time needed in the tumble dryer. So, there are pros and cons to having a higher spin speed.

Energy Efficient Importance

This is all about saving energy, which can also lead to a healthy chunk off your bills. While they are a lot more energy efficient than they were just 30 years ago, it’s still important to pay attention to the energy ratings on the machine.

You would think that A would be the highest rating, and while you are partially right, there are also A+ ratings too.

As an example, a machine that has an A+++ rating only uses around two-thirds of the energy that a standard A machine would. How is this calculated? The EU have a pretty simple way of figuring it all out.

They base their calculations on 220 washes a year, and determine the amount of energy that the machine would use on them.

To give you a better idea of how important the little pluses after the A are, here’s the difference between an A++ and an A+++ rating. The A+++ rating tends to be around 15% more energy efficient than its A++ counterpart.

This saves you a few extra pounds a year, but the most important part is the fact that it reduces your carbon footprint and your impact on the environment.

Most of the tests are performed on a 60-degree cotton wash, and others use a half wash at 40-degrees. However, there are other factors that will have an impact on the efficiency of your loads. These are things like:

  • The number of half loads and washes you are running
  • Washing a lot of clothing that isn’t cotton
  • Living in a hard water area
  • A furry heating element
  • Over and under loading the machine

Features and Programmes

This is a pretty important part of the process. What is a washing machine without its various functions, after all?

Some of the pricier models will have high-tech features, and some may even have smart capabilities where they can connect with your phone for washing control when you’re on the move. Here are some of the programmes you might want to keep an eye out for.

Fast Wash. Perfect for nights out or when you have kids, most models with this feature only take 15-30 minutes to complete a quick load. Some models do have weight restrictions for this feature.

Time Delay. Want to get the washer going when you leave or just before you get home? All of that is possible with the delay button. Most modern models will allow for a delay of up to 24 hours.

Smart Cleaning. A good number of washing machines now come with a self-cleaning drum to keep your model free from germs and bacteria between washes.

Sport Setting. Sweaty kids or adults? This setting is ideal after games of football or rugby. It works really well on dirt and grass stains, but also fights the odours left behind from sweat for full removal.

Antibacterial. This is perfect for those with allergies, but also for people who are unwell and have a compromised immune system. It kills germs and bacteria quickly, leaving your clothes very clean.

Quiet Running. A machine that doesn’t send vibrations through the walls, floors, and your head is one worth snapping up quickly; especially if it has a quiet spin cycle.

Child Locks. Many of us need this feature, because kids are curious, and they love pushing buttons (in more ways than one). The lock prevents them from switching the cycles and opening it up.

Should I Buy a Washer/Dryer to Save Money?

Should you buy a washer/dryer combo? The answer is both yes and no.

On the plus side, they save up a lot of space and can end up making things cheaper for you. On the other hand, they are often average at each ask – so you get a good wash and a good dry, but nothing exceptional.

The capacity for the washing machine and the dryer is usually different as well, so you may need to halve your wet load before you switch the drying function on.

It all depends on what you want and need. To help make things a little clearer for you, here’s a quick rundown of the ways a washer/dryer combo can (and can’t) help you.

The Pros:

  • They tend to have a smaller capacity, which is great for one or two person households, but not ideal for families.
  • If you line dry your clothes but want to know that you have another option in emergency situations (as well as winter weather), you’re completely covered.
  • You can wash and dry without moving between machines; ideal for those of us who just don’t want to do it.
  • You can also wash and dry independently with a lot of models, which is unbelievably useful.
  • The running costs tend to be around the same as a separate washer and dryer, so there isn’t any money lost, and it is cheaper to buy a combo machine rather than two separate ones.
  • It has the functionality of two machines, but the carbon footprint of one, which is a nice bonus.

The Cons:

  • You can only dry half of the capacity you wash, which takes more time and can be a little irritating.
  • They do tend to consume a lot of water and energy, so might not be suited to those who are on a tight water metre.
  • If something malfunctions, you lose both machines and not just one. Which can be really frustrating if you’ve lost the dryer and can’t use the washer.
  • They can be pretty chunky, so make sure you check the dimensions and the space in your home carefully before you buy.

Types of Washing Machine

This is pretty important. How are you going to make the right choice if you don’t even know what type of washing machine you want or need? Here’s a little more information on each type, helping to give you a clear idea of what you should be looking for.

Freestanding. This is the most common type of washing machine, and the one you will find in the majority of homes.

As long as they are connected to a plug ad a drain, they can go absolutely anywhere, and they range between 3kg and 12kg in terms of capacity. They don’t really blend in like an integrated machine, but they do boast a massive range of drum sizes.

Integrated. These are installed behind cupboard doors, making them a seamless part of your kitchen or utility room. They have been designed to be this way, and are therefore a lot less stable than their freestanding counterparts outside of an enclosure.

They are a lot quieter, however, because they are inside a cupboard as opposed to freely visible. The only real downside is that the installation fee is usually a lot more (around £80) and so eats into your wallet a little.

Semi-Integrated. This is a pretty rare type of machine, and you won’t really find many of them around. They are like an integrated machine in that they have been created to sit behind a cupboard door while operating.

However, the top panel with the controls is not covered and so both visible and accessible at all times. Sounds handy, but makes for a bit of an eyesore.

Top-Loading. Popular in the USA, but rare in the UK, the top loader is one that can be good for the elderly or those with back problems, but doesn’t quite wash as evenly as its front-loading counterpart.

They are cheap and narrow, but they can’t be kept under a surface because the door opens at the top of the machine. Really, they are just loud and awkward.

Washer/Dryer. If you’re short on space and want to save a little money, this is the perfect combination for you. It washes and dries clothes, allowing you to save time on top of everything else.

The only issue is that the dryer can usually only take half of the washing capacity, and that both the washer and dryer are good at what they do, but they aren’t great.

To Conclude

Here you are, you’ve made it to the end, and we thank you for taking the time to read this guide. It has been a labour of love, and one devoted to helping you find the best washing machine for your home.

Have you picked your latest addition, or are you about to scroll back up for another look?

Personally, the Beko WY12 is one of our favourites for its massive capacity, but we also can’t forget the peaceful running that comes with the Miele W1WD. It all depends on what you need and want for your home; as well as the budget you’re on.
