As many of you may know, the reason I fell in love with Shark was because of their steam cleaners. I still use one of the early models, and it is able to keep my home clean and free from bacteria effortlessly.
When you live with a lot of animals, or are going to be trekking mud from them in the house, you need a steam cleaner to keep on top of things; especially when you live with people who have allergies.
As you can imagine, I was really excited to review a Shark mop, because they are just so good, and everyone should be steam cleaning their homes. The S6001Uk and S6003UK are both superb models and deserve a lot more recognition.
The pocket mops are just so easy to use and work well on all types of hard floors, but I am getting ahead of myself here.
You can probably already guess that I liked the Shark S6001UK and S6003UK pocket mops, and I wasn’t exactly subtle about how much I love Shark steam cleaners here.
However, they aren’t perfect, and I will be clear about that now. Why? Well, you’ll have to have a read below to find out what I loved, and what I didn’t.

Presenting the Shark S6001UK and S6003UK

The Shark S6001UK and S6003UK are both fantastic steam mops for cleaning the home, and they are suited to those who want something quick, easy, and lightweight to get the job done with.
It works effortlessly across all hard floor types as well, leaving your floors looking and feeling spotless. Some might dislike that there are no accessories, and that it is a corded model.
There are other Shark mops that offer steam mops with tools for a higher price. As for the cord, it is all down to personal preference, but I have always found that cords mean I can spend a really long time cleaning my floors and getting rid of bacteria.
What’s the Difference Between the Two Shark Models?
Just like with their vacuum cleaners, Shark has very few differences between their steam mops. In this case, the S6003UK has a little something extra in the form of an intelligent steam control system with three settings.
This works to make things a little easier for you, and is also something I will look at in more detail later on in this review.
Other than that, there isn’t really anything that separates these models because all of the remaining features are the same across both. Due to the extra additions, however, this review will focus on the Shark S6003UK.
Key Features
Design and Features
It has a really slim and streamline build, and it looks absolutely fantastic. Its sleek design means that it’s not only a dream to use, but it packs up perfectly so that it can be slotted away in a cupboard after use.
I’ve seen some seriously bulky models in my time, and this one is the perfect size for every home and situation. There is a filling flask to make things easier for you when putting water in the machine, and this really does do its job as described.
It’s not particularly fiddly, and I managed to get the water into the steam mop without spilling it everywhere; a first for me. If you live in a hard water area as I do, it is best to used distilled water as much as possible to prevent the formation of limescale.
The extra large water tank also means you can keep cleaning for longer, and it really does last a while. The Shark S6003UK comes with two cleaning pads as well, which allows you to change between them regularly.
This means you can throw one in the wash after cleaning, and then switch straight to the clean pad when you need to steam the floors next.
The pads are really easy to remove from the cleaner (at the click of a switch, in fact) as well as slip on, so there is no hassle at all when you either begin or finish your regime.
The best feature is the kick and flip. You’ll notice that the cleaning pads are double-sided (another thing I have always loved about Shark). This because you can give the head a gentle kick, flip it over, and start using the other side for twice the cleaning radius.
You get way more material to clean with, can zoom across your home, and the action to do so means you don’t need to touch it with your hands. It also has an intelligent electronic steam control system.
What this means is that you have three different steam settings that you can choose between according to the floor type that you are working on.
The Shark S6003UK is able to tackle sealed floors, hardwood, marble, tile, and stone surfaces without any damage or concern. It’s a feature that really did work to make things easier for me.
Cord Length and Storage
The cord is only 8m long, which isn’t massive, but it does depend on how much of your floor is hard and how much is carpet. For me, the cable length worked because my kitchen and bathroom are quite small.
However, after renovations are done the two rooms will be larger, and the living room will have hard floors – I will miss a 10m cable then. There is a great cable tidy on the back as well to keep things neat.
Weight and Handling
It’s a very lightweight machine at 2.7kg, and while I know there are people who found this heavy, I have to disagree. Even I, with my horribly weak arms, found this to be a pretty good machine to hold in terms of the weight.
The handling is so easy and smooth as well, and I really liked how agile it was as a machine. It slid around obstacles with great ease, and the swivel head really helped with that.
The controls were easy to use and access as well, and you can depress the head for a quick and powerful release of steam. The little things are what make this steam cleaner so fantastic.
The handle itself is really nice and comfortable to use. I didn’t find that it cramped or ached after prolonged cleaning sessions, which meant I could be as thorough and particular as I liked without any repercussions.
All this is despite the fact it was not as padded as the Shark vacuum cleaners tend to be.

How Well Does It Clean?
The cleaning power is phenomenal. I mentioned before that it works on all hard and sealed floors, but the question is how well?
Something I appreciated was the fact that when you are cleaning with the S6003UK, no streaks are left behind, and this certainly makes it among the best steam mops I have used. It’s just so easy and effortless.
The cleaning pads have been designed to grip dirt as well, which means even the most stubborn areas can be scrubbed down in no time at all.
As someone who has a dog that likes to get muddy, this steam cleaner has been a massive help when getting rid of the worst mud shakes and paw prints. It even reached down and turned my grout white again; I forgot it even used to be that colour.
Another big thing in my home is allergies, and these can be pretty major at times. So, when I read that this corded steam mop is able to kill 99.9% of bacteria with its hot steam, I knew I had to put it to the test.
Well, I was impressed. I can tell you that. There have been no allergic reactions since using this model, and I am satisfied that it is cleaning just as well as anticipated.
When you are using the intelligent controls to direct the steam, you will also notice the hot steam blast. This is the perfect remedy for a whole host of situations; especially if you need a targeted steam clean.
Ideal for touch areas and stains, flip the head up to let the burst free and then put it back and swipe over the area. It works quickly, effectively, and your stain will be gone.

While this is not part of what the steam cleaner typically does, I did use it on my bathroom wall tiles, and they looked spectacular afterwards.
Probably not something I should do regularly for the sake of the wall grout, but if yours are in really ouch shape like mine were, this can give them a whole new lease on life.
Accessories
Sadly, the Shark S6003UK doesn’t come with any accessories. I was pretty disappointed by this because I do quite like a lot of the attachments that you can usually get with steam cleaners.
While it is a negative against this model of Shark, it still worked amazingly on my floors without the extra tools.
How Does It Compare?
Here are some other, similar, models of vacuum cleaner for you to consider, just in case you want to look at other options before you commit to a Shark S6001UK and S6003UK.

Vax S85-CM
This multifunctional steam mop can be transformed into a handheld model so that you can reach difficult places, and even your windows.
You can adjust the steam levels effortlessly, and it wills bacteria while also leaving your floors fresh and sparkling.
There is a huge accessory kit, and the price is surprisingly low considering all of this.

Vax S86-SF-CC
Another one from Vax, this steam mop might be chunky, but it is also exceptionally powerful.
Once full, it is ready to go in 60 seconds and will destroy bacteria as you move it across your floors.
There is variable steam control, and the triangular head means that it can get into every corner with no hassle, so you never have to miss a single spec of dirt.
To Conclude
We hope that this Shark S6001UK and S6003UK guide has let you get to know each of the steam mops in question, as well as what they offer you.
There isn’t much difference between them aside from the smart controls and the price, so the choice solely depends on your personal preference.
There is so much that I loved about this steam mop; from the fast and streak-free cleaning, to the easy handling and sleek design. The cable is a little short, and I was disappointed by the lack of accessories, but it has done wonders for my kitchen and bathroom floors.
It reaches right down and leaves them cleaner than I could have hoped. The short guarantee was a little concerning at first considering Shark usually have it for five years as opposed to two, but I trust their judgement here. Overall, it gets a 4/5 from me.
