Discover-the-Best-Cylinder-Vacuum-Top-10-UK-Models

There are certain brands that immediately come to mind when you think of a cylinder vacuum. Miele, Numatic, even Dyson. They can be a fantastic choice for any homeowner, especially since they offer powerful suction with a design that makes handling them easy and convenient. They are versatile in terms of their functionality, and suited to a wide range of situations.

However, is a cylinder vacuum cleaner right for you and how can you be sure you are selecting the right one?

Our detailed review guide doesn’t just look at our favourite tried and tested models, it also takes you through important considerations before you buy. Take a look and see if one of the cylinder vacs below piques your interest.

1. Editors Pick

2. Budget Pick

Key Things to Consider

Before you can buy a new cylinder vacuum, there are a few key things that you need to take into consideration. After all, you want to ensure that you are making the right choice.

Cleaning Radius. You want to be able to clean your home without jumping to the nearest socket every few minutes to switch the plug.

Many cylinder vacuum cleaners benefit from a wide cleaning radius because of the long hose and wand that comes with them.

This gives you more space and freedom to clean without the hassle of changing power outlets.

Capacity. Ideally, you should have at least 1L in terms of capacity so that you can get around the house without needing to empty regularly.

Thankfully, cylinder vacuums tend to have quite large capacities, which makes it much more convenient for you.

Weight and Handling. Many cylinder models can be very heavy, but the plus side is that their design makes pulling them around much easier and smoother.

However, you will need to take the weight into consideration with the stairs as this can be quite risky – especially with the chunky build that most cylinder vacuums have.

Filtration System. You want a good filtration system, especially if you have asthma and allergy sufferers in the house. The best one to go for is HEPA, which is a medical-grade filter that’s able to capture 99.97% of pollutants.

The standard filters found in cheaper vacuum cleaners are good, but they are nowhere near as effective as the HEPA ones.

Accessories. Your cylinder vac should at least have a basic crevice tool to assist with above-floor cleaning. The accessories can make a massive difference, with pet tools being used for stubborn hair, and upholstery tools for the furniture.

Dust brushes are brilliant on kitchen floors and delicate surfaces for that finishing touch. A good selection is key.

What we loved about this model is that it is incredibly powerful, to the point you might need to slide the suction level down to make it a little easier to push over carpet.

The main floorhead is fantastic at reaching right into the fibres of your carpet to lift embedded hair and dirt, which is ideal for homes with pets. On hard floors, it is exceptional at collecting fine dust and good for large debris.

It’s easy to handle, with a relatively lightweight build that doesn’t feel strenuous to pull along behind you, and it actually quite easy to lift up the stairs when needed. It also benefits from quiet running for early morning cleaning.

The filtration system is fantastic for those who have asthma and allergies, collecting allergens and pet dander efficiently to keep the air in your home cleaner.

What We Didn’t Like

It’s not the greatest machine with fine dust on hard floors, and the emptying process is messier than a bagged vacuum cleaner.

FAQs

Bagged vs Bagless

Bagged or bagless, it is all down to personal preference. Bagged vacuum cleaners tend to be cleaner to empty with less risk of dust and dirt escaping. This makes them better suited to those with asthma and allergies. The capacity is usually larger than a bagless machine too.

However, vacuum bags are also an added expense that can really mount up over the year. They are also less convenient to empty, and it is hard to tell that the bag is full. With a bagless model, the canister is clear so that you can see inside.

Bagless vacuums also tend to benefit from fade-free suction on a higher level than their bagged counterparts.

When to Buy a Cylinder Vac

You should buy a cylinder vacuum if you want exceptional suction and cleaning capabilities. After all, they tend to have better cleaning capabilities than their upright counterparts.

They are compact and able to reach under tight spaces easily, and are also comfortable to drag along behind you while you clean.

They are perfectly suited to those who want a quieter vacuum cleaner without compromising on power, and often have fantastic reach to provide a spacious cleaning radius.

They have often been the highest-scoring models in our tests, and things like the filtration systems tend to remain superior.

When Not to Buy a Cylinder Vac

You shouldn’t buy a cylinder vacuum if you want something that can weave around furniture and cover wide areas of flooring quickly.

They can be really tricky to use on stairs, namely because their bodies are wide and cylindrical. Their powerful suction makes them harder to push on carpets, and the hose can be very frustrating to try and store away after use.

Plus, the floorheads are smaller so it can take longer to vacuum.

Final Thoughts

There are so many great brands to choose from, and hopefully, this guide has been able to help you find one that is perfect for your home.

We’ve grabbed a great selection of prices and uses to help give you a wide variety to choose from.

It’s impossible to pick just one of these as the best model, especially as they all have their own strengths. Miele is always an excellent brand to go with because of their reliability as well as the level of power and suction they provide.

Similarly, the Dyson Big Ball is an excellent choice for advanced tech and superior cleaning, as well as homes with pets. Every model here has its own strengths for you to consider.
