2. Budget Pick

Key Things to Look for

Before you commit to your commercial vacuum cleaner, there are a few things that you should keep an eye out for.

Suction. You want a model that is powerful and able to collect embedded dirt from carpets as well as fine dust from hard floors. Most commercial vacuums are already very powerful, so the trick is to ensure that it is effective on all floor types and still able to collect the large debris in addition to the smaller stuff.

Capacity. A large capacity is key because you will have a sizeable area to deal with. You don’t want to be emptying the bin regularly, so make sure you pick something that will be able to keep going for as long as possible. This goes for both regular commercial vacuums and the wet/dry ones.

Filtration. Good filtration is important, especially if you have asthma or allergies. Ideally, your chosen vacuum cleaner should have a HEPA filtration system, or at least be allergy approved. I the wet/dry models, you will also want a filter that keeps the chunky debris separate and away from the motor.

Durability. It needs to last a long time and be able to withstand wear and tear. A good commercial vacuum will have a robust build that can take daily usage without issue. It should be able to handle the larger pieces of debris effortlessly as well as heavy-duty cleaning tasks

Features. Additional features are important. Things like tools, as well as blow functions and drain pipes. The little things can mean a lot when you are trying to decide what is right for your business, so always pay close attention to the added extras and what they can do for you.

Noise. Most vacuums are quite noisy, but you don’t want something deafening if you have to clean around those who are trying to focus on their work. In this case, the quieter the better, and we have quite a few quiet models for you to look at in the product guide below.

Types of Commercial Vacuum and Their Uses

There are several types of commercial vacuum available – each of which has its own uses in the industry. Before you decide on a model, it is important to select the right type for the job too.

Upright. These are ideal for general purpose cleaning. They are comfortable and easy to use, and offer great suction power. Plus, they are compact for easy storage when you are done. They tend to be suited to a range of commercial buildings, including restaurants, hotels, and offices.

Canister. These are very light and easy to handle, as well as one of the most popular types of commercial vacuum cleaner. They can reach tighter places, they are quieter, and they offer superb cleaning power on top of everything else. These are also suited to pretty much any commercial situation.

Backpack. These were designed to be lightweight and easy to carry, although they are not commonly seen. They are usually found in janitorial or industrial vacuum cleaning roles because they were designed for use by those who need them for prolonged periods of time. They tend to be quite comfortable as well as easy to use.

Handheld. These are only good for cleaning small areas, like steps or drapes, and it is surprisingly chunky for a handheld vacuum cleaner. It cannot cope with larger areas, but it is good to pull out in a pinch when you have a small mess to clean.

Wet/Dry. These can clean wet or dry messes effortlessly, and are one of the most popular commercial vacuum choices as a result. They can be very loud, just as a warning, but they are also loaded with helpful features and usually have massive capacities.

  • Dimensions: 36.5 x 34 x 36cm

What We Like

What we were really impressed by is how powerful this vacuum cleaner is. The suction is incredible, providing professional levels of cleaning across both hard floors and carpets effortlessly.

Despite the power behind this machine, it remains surprisingly lightweight and compact, making it both convenient and versatile in terms of where and how it can clean.

The large capacity rivals that of pretty much every cylinder vacuum on the market, and this is thanks to the bag that is inserted in the machine. It traps allergens and debris, making disposal easy and reaction-free.

It also comes with a fantastic arsenal of tools, allowing you to reach tight corners with ease. The wide cleaning radius also means you can reach the stairs effortlessly.

Anything We Didn’t Like

The cord can be a little stiff to wind back in sometimes, but this does loosen over time.

Should You Buy?

Yes, you should buy this if you want a reliable all-rounder for commercial cleaning. It’s a fantastic machine, and one that we highly recommend.

Of course, it only collects dry debris so if you want a wet/dry vacuum you might want to try the Karcher model above. Otherwise, this is an excellent and reasonably priced model of vacuum cleaner.

4. Karcher T 7/1 Classic Dry Vacuum Cleaner

Best Lightweight Commercial Vac

Another excellent model from Karcher, something we often don’t find in commercial vacuums is a reasonable weight. Finding a lightweight model can feel impossible, but we have you covered. Why not see if this is what you’ve been searching for.

Specifications

  • Weight: 3.5kg
  • Capacity: 7.5L
  • Wet/Dry: No

We really enjoyed how easy this model was to handle, with a lightweight build that means it can be carried around and up the stairs effortlessly.

Despite its small and compact design, it remains a powerful force of nature, with suction that surprised us, and excellent performance across all floor types. It’s able to deep clean carpets and collects the dust from any hard surfaces easily.

The versatile design makes it perfect for a range of commercial duties, and it is nicely suited to daily maintenance cleaning.

The radius is ideal for comfortable use, and the quiet running means that if you need to clean when others are working they are less likely to be annoyed by the sound. The capacity is quite large, meaning you can clean a wide area before emptying.

Anything We Didn’t Like

There are no major flaws for this model.

Should You Buy?

Yes, this is a great model to buy if you want something affordable and reliable to work with – especially if you have just started cleaning commercially.

It doesn’t have any major flaws, but it is also a dry debris only vacuum cleaner. Our previous Karcher model is wet/dry if you need something with a little more flexibility.

However, for those who just need a dry vacuum at a low price, it doesn’t get much better than this.

5. Numatic NRV 240-11 Dry Vacuum Cleaner

Ideal for Shops and Office Use

Swinging back to Numatic, this is the classic that we all know and love. The traditional Henry is able to do more than just clean your home, and it actually makes quite an effective commercial vacuum cleaner for shops and offices. You might just be surprised by how well it is able to cope.

Specifications

  • Weight: 9kg
  • Capacity: 9L
  • Wet/Dry: No
  • Dimensions: 34x36x37cm
  • Accessories: crevice tool, dusting brush
  • Noise: 76dB

What We Like

We were really pleased with the level of suction that this vacuum cleaner is able to offer. Numatic is often underestimated, and this model proves that they are a lot more capable than people give them credit for.

The cleaning power is exceptional, leaving carpets looking refreshed and collecting even the finest debris from hard floors without a second thought.

It has a large capacity, and as it is a bagged vacuum cleaner the contents are secured to prevent reactions in those that have allergies and asthma.

It comes with a good selection of attachments to make life a little easier when cleaning, and while it can be a little heavy this is not something you will feel as it trails along behind you, plus it is very easy to handle.

Anything We Didn’t Like

The hose can be a little short for reaching high places and other corners of commercial properties.

Should You Buy?

Yes. A Numatic is always a recommended vacuum cleaner. They are affordable and reliable, as well as able to cope with a whole range of messes.

It’s the perfect little companion for shops and offices, but it is also able to cope with much bigger messes such as plaster and other building waste.

6. Nilfisk Multi ll 30T Wet and Dry Vacuum Cleaner

Perfect for Wet and Dry Use

Being able to clean up a range of messes is important in commercial cleaning. You never know what you are going to come across, and this is what makes a wet/dry vacuum cleaner such a priority on the list of many cleaning companies.

Specifications

  • Weight: 10kg
  • Capacity: 22L
  • Wet/Dry: Yes
  • Dimensions: 42.6 x 37.4 x 68.4cm
  • Accessories: Electric tool
  • Noise: Not Stated

What We Like

What we were really impressed by is how easy this machine is to use, especially when you consider all the extras it comes with.

It has an outlet for the accompanying electric tool (which scrubs surfaces and gives them a deep clean), and the power controls for both the main machine and this additional feature are right next to each other. There is also tool storage.

It has a massive capacity with excellent cleaning capabilities across all floor types and surfaces. The semi-automatic filter keeps things running smoothly, and you can flip between the wet and dry functions quickly.

In addition to exceptional suction, it also benefits from a blow feature for efficient cleaning. Despite its heavy build, the wheels on the base make it effortless to push/pull.

Anything We Didn’t Like

The hose is quite cheaply made, and the poor quality means that it doesn’t last too long.

Should You Buy?

There are better models out there in terms of build quality, namely the Karcher wet/dry vacuum that we looked at previously.

While it is a great model that will clean a range of different messes, it is a little frustrating that you run the risk of needing to replace the hose very close to the date of purchase. It’s a model we liked, but not one we would put at the top of our recommendations.

7. Karcher NT 75/2 Tact² Me Tc

The Best Vacuum for Industrial Use

A strong and efficient vacuum cleaner is needed for industrial work, and Karcher are masters of their craft. This particular model is ideally suited to the task and is sure to be able to keep up with whatever you throw at it.

  • Wet/Dry: Yes
  • Dimensions: 68.5 x 56 x 92cm
  • Accessories: Crevice tool, drain hose, suction tube/hose
  • Noise: 73dB

What We Like

What impressed us the most was the fact that it really does think of everything. While the massive capacity is unlikely to be filled quickly, it also comes with a drain hose so that you can empty it down the drain easily, and the fact that it is oil-resistant is a massive bonus.

The tilting chassis can also be locked into place for safety and convenience, making your job much easier.

The smart storage on the back of the machine allows everything to be packed away neatly once you are done, and the wheels on the base make it easy to push and pull around.

Liquid and solid grime alike stand no chance, and the cleaning power is exceptional as well as brilliant on all surfaces. Despite its size and power, it remains quiet to run and very easy to control/handle.

Anything We Didn’t Like

There are no major flaws, but the price is a little high.

Should You Buy?

Yes, absolutely. This is a top of the range commercial vacuum cleaner, and you aren’t going to get more sophisticated than this.

The price is a little high, but it’s more than justified by the number of features and the amount of power that it provides. For us, it is one of our top recommendations for a commercial cleaner that is powerful, reliable, and highly efficient.

  • Very shallow reviews. I can only comment on Numatic Henry but it has more cons than noted here: the hard plastic end on the hose always splits within the first couple of months, if it hits an obstruction it will stop dead and no matter how you try to manoeuvre it around by pulling on the hose you will eventually have to go back and lift it around or over whatever is there and finally it is a nightmare trying to secure the hose to the body and it will always unravel before you have carried it any distance. Just my two pennies worth.

  • We use the SEBO BS36 and will give it 5 stars all the way. Very robust and great results, yes you do have replace the bags at an expense, but you still have great suction when practically full, when compared to others where you have to replace half full. Great for vacuuming under beds etc too.
