Summary
Have pets? This is the carpet cleaner you need. Designed to deal with all creatures great and small, there’s no need to worry about muddy stains or old marks from accidents of the past. Easy to use and with quiet running, what more could you want?
Presenting the Bissell StainPro 6
The Bissell StainPro 6 is excellent. It sports a brilliant design and is packed with features that you will certainly end up using on a regular basis.Â
It’s thorough when it washes your floors, and the heat technology that has been implemented makes a world of difference to the process.Â
The accessories and short drying time top this carpet cleaner off and creates a near-perfect balance.
Of course, it may not be quite right for you. It is a heavy machine, and if you need to wash carpets upstairs you may not be up to the task. If weight is a deciding factor for you, the Bissell StainPro 4 might be the better option.Â
If you’re interested in learning more, you can read the short review for it at the end of the piece, as well as head over to a more detailed one.
Pros

Key Features
Design and Features
The Bissell StainPro 6 has what I would call a solid design. It’s modern, it’s chunky, and it fits in nicely with pretty much any aesthetic.Â
The assembly is really quick and easy, as all you need to do is screw the two halves together and you’re done. Then you can move right onto the cleaning aspect.
The handle is nice and comfortable, as well as built into the machine for a smoother appearance. It contains the power button as well as the trigger for the detergent, which means all the key controls are right within your grasp the whole time.Â
The only other controls you will need are the ones on top of the tank. This allows you to switch between the carpet cleaning mode and the tools.
This particular model of carpet cleaner has a bold defining feature in the form of the HeatWave tech. It’s quite clever in that it takes the heat from the motor and redirects it through a specially placed vent beneath the water tank.Â
This will ensure the water remains at constant cleaning temperature for the best results, and also to help kill germs and bacteria.

The floorhead is quite wide, offering a greater cleaning area while you are washing your carpets. There are also six rows of brushes, each of which works hard to really reach into the carpet and lift dirt that you didn’t realise was there.Â
With the addition of the edge cleaning brushes, it really comes together to create a thorough cleaning solution. I’ll go into more detail about how effective it is a little later.
It comes with a flexible hose that measures in at 2.1m. This is quite a good length, and should be more than enough to reach areas above the floor easily. There is also tool storage on the front of the machine where the tough stain accessory can be slotted in comfortably.Â
It’s quite a handy design feature that older models like the StainPro 4 are certainly lacking.
As with most Bissell carpet cleaners, the StainPro 6 comes with a two-in-one tank as opposed to separate ones. This means the clean and dirty water are kept separately, but they are contained within one giant tank at the base of the carpet cleaner.Â
This makes things more convenient, and also saves space on the machine. You do have to measure the solution yourself, but this isn’t hard, and you will also receive a small bottle of Bissell detergent free with your purchase.
How Noisy is it?
The Bissell StainPro 6 is just wonderfully quiet at 68dB, so you’ll hardly notice the noise while you clean. This makes a nice change from most carpet cleaners, as many of them are nearly as loud as a standard vacuum.
Cord Length and Storage

It comes with an 8m cord, which is quite reasonable and means you won’t need to switch sockets very often.Â
In addition to this, there is also a cable tidy that will ensure everything is wrapped up neatly after use on the back of the machine. In the same place, there is a hook for the hose so that it stays out of the way.
It is a bit of a bulky machine, especially when compared to the StainPro 4 and the InstaClean. This means it’s not quite as well suited to smaller spaces and you’ll likely need a larger cupboard for it to sit inside comfortably.Â
You could remove the upper half of the machine, but this would require a fair amount of extra effort and may not be worth doing every time.
Weight and Handling
It is a heavy machine, and 13.7kg can be difficult to get up the stairs if you have carpets up there. Despite this, it remains exceptionally smooth and easy to handle. It glides over your floors, and pushing it is fairly effortless thanks to the wheels on the back.
You would think the weight would make things harder, but it is well-distributed across the machine. The only thing you might struggle with is lifting it, and if you do decide to do this make sure the water tank is empty first as this will take some of the weight off.Â
Other than that, the attachments are very easy to snap onto the hose, and it is really pleasant to use.
Tank Capacity

It has a 4L capacity, and the tank itself is fairly easy, although it can be a little fiddly in the beginning. All you need to do is slip it out of its place on the base of the carpet cleaner.Â
Then, empty out the dirty water and add some clean water and detergent to the correct side. Once done, snap it back into place and you’re ready to go.
This is part of why the two-in-one tank is so desirable; it saves you an extra trip, and everything is close together therefore taking up less space.Â
While separate tanks are quite popular, once you have used a two-in-one the compactness and convenience of them really wins you over.
How Well Does It Clean and Dry?

The Bissell StainPro 6 doesn’t clean hard floors, but it is amazing on carpets. By the time you are done, your carpets will look happy and refreshed; a nice change from their usual tired look. It’s great at picking up dirt, especially that left by pets and kids.
Even muddy prints that have been tracked through the house against your will are practically gone after a single session.Â
The HeatWave technology I mentioned before helps with this because it ensures the water is always nice and warm for optimal cleaning results.
Of course, you also have the six rows of brushes to help agitate the carpets and bring up the dirt that was hiding from you. Additionally, the side brushes are some of the best on the market, and certainly the highest ranked from Bissell.Â
They really do get right up to the edge, and there isn’t a noticeable border at the end. I was really pleased with this, as some models (like the InstaClean) do leave a little bit of a frame around the room.
The flexible hose makes above floor cleaning possible, and the stairs can be tackled effortlessly as well. Working with the attachments, they can wash your upholstery in a gentle yet effective manner.Â
You may even consider using it for the interior of the car, and I wouldn’t blame you. It does a fantastic job no matter the circumstances.
It uses Surround Suction technology, which means it is able to suck up more water at a faster rate while cleaning. As a result, you only need to wait for a couple of hours before the carpets are completely dry.Â
This is part of what makes it great for busy households, because you never need to wait long before you can get back to normal again.
How Well Does It Cope with Stains?
Without pretreatment, it does a good job. It definitely lessens their appearance and helps them fade to a good point. However, I would always recommend using pretreatment before you carpet clean.Â
You can buy this in a spray bottle, and all you need to do is squirt it onto the affected area. It increases the chance of stain being completely removed instead of faded.
Accessories
The Bissell StainPro 6 does come with some hady tools. I’ve already mentioned the flexible hose a few times and how useful it is. There is also a crevice tool, and this can help you to reach difficult corners in your home or car, providing greater versatility.Â
It’s especially good if you are cleaning at the end of a tenancy because you can reach all those little spaces.
The tough stain tool is a Bissell classic, and it can be used on everything. Whether you are cleaning carpets, or you’re taking on the stairs, this attachment can handle it all.Â
You can even use it as part of your regular carpet cleaning session to try and scrub out irritating stains that just don’t want to go away.
How Does It Compare?
Here are some other, similar, models of carpet cleaner for you to consider, just in case you want to look at other options before you commit to a Bissell StainPro 6.

BISSELLBissell StainPro 4
This model is about £60 cheaper than the StainPro 6, and it is also half the weight. So, if you are looking for something that is lighter and easier to carry, this could be the right choice. It does an alright job on carpet, but it can leave streaks behind.
Overall, the StainPro 4 doesn’t do as well as the StainPro 6 in terms of cleaning and stain removal, but it is a more budget-friendly machine that is quite capable of removing fresh stains effectively. Overall, it is one worth considering but also one that we wouldn’t necessarily recommend.

Vax Platinum Power Max
For £20 more, you could get your hands on Vax’s finest carpet cleaner. Sporting exceptional power and a weight that is around the same as the StainPro 6, it really gives you your money’s worth in terms of cleaning power.
Old stains are faded until you don’t even notice them, and new stains are removed in the blink of an eye. The drying time is exceptional on the Vax Platnium Power, with the quick wash setting allowing carpets to go back to normal use in less than an hour.
Should I Buy the Bissell StainPro 6?
This is the big question, should you buy the StainPro 6? It’s certainly proved itself to us in a number of ways, and if you have pets or kids it’s a great way to get the dirt and grime out of the carpet before it turns into an old stain.
The main issue this carpet cleaner has is the weight; everything else is superb. It is a heavy machine, and this does make carrying it up the stairs a bit of a chore, but it’s worth it for the results that it produces.
The heated washing is something that I really liked, and not a feature that you see often enough in carpet cleaners. For me, it is the best Bissell carpet cleaner, which is why I am rewarding it with 4.5/5 stars.
